The Duchenne Dip is an annual children’s charity swim in aid of Duchenne UK, who are committed to funding and accelerating treatments and a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. For more information on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy or to see who has prompted us to fundraise, please see here.
2016 saw the first of what we hope will be many Duchenne Dip events. It was held at Waterfield Leisure Centre in Melton Mowbray on June 4th 2016. 35 young swimmers, bursting at the seams with enthusiasm (and cake!) swam a combined distance of more than a marathon 26.2 miles. The swimmers ranged in age from 6 to 16. We had a complete spectrum of abilities too with the kids swimming anything between 2 and 128 lengths each! All of them swam with unbelievable commitment and a huge smile on their faces! And what a fun night it was! Everyone is already looking forward to the Duchenne Dip 2017.

Our swimmers each received a snack bag, filled with delicious treats, very kindly arranged by Paul Gant and generously donated by Sainsbury’s.
And there was plenty more to eat from our brimming cake stall! We also had a tombola and sold soft drinks, all of which contributed to a fun evening and an excellent fundraising total.
No sporting event would be complete without a quick warm-up. The fantastic Sam Spencer took everyone through their paces and got them limbered up and laughing before they took to the pool.
Our amazing diving photographers, Rob & Pash spent hours capturing the whole thing from beneath the surface, giving us an fantastic ‘fish eye’ view of these kids as they thrashed their way way beyond their goal distance! Check out some of their fantastic pics below! 🙂
At the end of the evening, each swimmer was presented with a medal and certificate to mark what was a fantastic achievement.
Together, this formidable team of young swimmers, their families & friends and all those generous enough to donate or help on the day, raised an amazing £2,783!
